Marissa Winters Owner of: TBD Home Base: New Jersey, USA Interests: Healthy Foods Read my Stories I have been a registered dietitian for over 20 years. In 2007 I earned a Masters Degree in Holistic Health Studies from Georgian Court University. Being a dietitian has been a lot of fun. |
I graduated from Rutgers with a degree in economics, and spent 7 years in commercial banking. A nutrition class taken at Brookdale Community College for personal interest lead to more and more classes, and I wound up back at Rutgers to complete my nutrition studies, then to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey for my Internship. I have worked in hospitals, clinics, and schools. Currently I work in skilled nursing facilities helping people with chronic conditions and post surgical patients to move their recovery along by eating well and making healthy food choices. I try to make recommendations for my patients that take into account the realities of their busy lives. Someone can be instructed on the most appropriate diet to manage their diabetes or high blood pressure, but if the food doesn’t taste good or meal preparation is too complicated, the benefits will be lost. I am a firm believer in the healing power of foods, but I feel using fresh, wholesome ingredients is just half the battle. My studies at Georgian Court University as well as my training as an Usai Reiki Level 2 practioner have also convinced me that a meal prepared and served with love and consideration in a peaceful, positive environment will provide much better nourishment than one gotten at the drive through and eaten on the run. The act of eating is meant to nourish both body and soul. My maiden name is Cerrato, and I have so many wonderful memories of my grandmother and aunts making special meals for Christmas, Palm Sunday and especially Easter. The food, of course was amazing, but the best part was just being around the table together. Travel to Italy holds a prominent spot on my bucket list, but one daughter is a sophomore in college and the other is a junior in high school, so right now my husband and I are focusing on other priorities. Our time is coming though. For now, I am enjoying the journey one step at a time. |
