About me
I'm an American descended from Italians (both maternal and paternal sides of the family; 2nd generation on my father's side) and I'm interested in finding recipes for things that my grandmothers used to make. One made a straight, finger-type (maybe 3/4" wide?) cookie with a thin icing & sprinkles on top that typically was flavored with either vanilla or almond extracts; the cookie was soft but not so soft as cake inside. I'm not sure if she piped them onto her cookie sheet, or shaped them by hand, but for some reason I think she may have piped them. My maternal grandmother made a dessert calzone with a very dense, chestnut paste & bittersweet chocolate filling - there may have been a little citron in there, as well? - that were fried, drained and maybe drizzled with a little bit of honey. These were the size of hand pies, not little cookies. The recipes were never passed down. These recipes are from the 1920s to 1950s in the northeastern part of the US. And if I don't find them, I know there will be plenty of other yummy recipes to find on your web site!
